One for the books...

This year has been a completely new undertaking for me. My plan is to share two very wild, wonderful things with you in the next few months.

The first of February my first novel went to an editor. This is akin to leaving your newborn with a sitter for the first time. Will they take care of it? Will they do the right thing by your child? And you pray that your baby doesn’t return cut to ribbons and bleeding all over the page. Time will tell. More about that later.

The second astounding development in my life was an invitation to go on a mission trip to Rwanda in central Africa. Now, I admit to thinking of a small vacation once the dust had settled following Jerry's passing, but never this. A trip to the coast, a few days sitting on the beach contemplating my toes was as far ahead as I could imagine. And then God intervened. Africa! God does have a sense of humor when He answers prayers.

I am going with the blessing of my children, although Sarah sucked in a deep breath before she agreed. People’s reactions have been interesting. Most are as excited as I am, but a few think I am a few bricks shy of a full load.

So, this blog is intended to take you on two trips. One into the world of writing and publishing and the other to share my experiences with you as I minister in Africa.

Team Rwanda grandmas: Judi, Leslie, June and Susan

Somewhere between now and the middle of April, my son is going to have to make me laptop savvy or you will get nothing. And what you do get will be raw, unedited descriptions of what I see, feel, hear, and come to terms with as I proceed into a place, both physically and emotionally, that I have never been to before. Bear with me.

A planning session at my dining room table in February. So much to learn in a short period of time. I have gotten the required immunizations, with no side effects to speak of. I'm armed with malaria meds and anti "Montezuma's revenge" pills, support stockings, earphones, head rests, books, outlet electric converters, mosquito repellant and.....the list seems endless.

Time is moving fast. Just a little over a month until we depart. Prayers for all of us as we prepare for our trip.
